Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will visit Brussels, Belgium, from 25 to 26 April. Tuomioja will meet Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Didier Reynders and participate in an international peace mediation conference to be organised in the European Parliament.
In their bilateral meeting, the foreign ministers of Finland and Belgium will discuss, for example, the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, topical EU issues and the situation in the Middle East.
The topic of the conference, arranged in collaboration between the Crisis Management Initiative organisation and the European Parliament, is the role of regional actors in peace mediation. Minister Tuomioja will make the closing remarks at the seminar, addressing, for instance, the need to improve EU’s peace mediation structures. Other participants in the conference in addition to Minister Tuomioja will include President Martti Ahtisaari, President of the European Parliament Martin Schultz, Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Didier Reynders.
During his trip, Minister Tuomioja will also meet Finnish Members of the European Parliament.
